Making You’re Laptop Battery Last Longer

Sunday, August 5th, 2007

I have a old laptop that truth be told can’t hold much power compared to new ones (3600mAH) so I need to get enough out of it to do my basic things so I’m going to tell you what I do for this.

1. Most important one turn the brightness to a minimal, now my Fn button doesn’t work so I have to do this a complete different way so I use PowerStrip which allows me to turn everything down and it saves a lot of power.

2. Use very little programs, if I’m on the battery i try to use just one program at a time for example I have a seperate install of firefox which has no addons or anything like this, means it uses much less resources saving my laptop power.

3. Do not use the CD/DVD drive, these consume a lot of power to avoid these you can use virtual drives such as deamon tools this will allow you to run a image file for your virtual drive. If you have a newer laptop as well you might find a button to disable the drive so using it will also help.

4. Turn off wireless card when it is possible, so if your writing on your blog instead boot up something like notepad and edit it later in your blog this will save even more power, personally I cant turn my connection off I’m using the internet all the time I’m on it.

5. Adjust for best performance, this is basically turning your desktop to classic style, but for even better performance you need to go to control panel >> system >> advanced >> adjust for best performance.

I hope this all helps I will be coming up with some more later on, if you like your battery these are the best ways to keep it powered for longer, using these will also help your laptop stay cool which is critical for summer.

For a laptop cooler click the image on the left, this will cool your laptop down helping your computer live longer and keeping your lap cool at the same time.

Website Adverts good or bad?

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

If you know me you will know I’ve tried out several methods of advertising on my sites, for example Google adsence, affiliate future, amazons affiliate, adbrite, 1and1 referral and now trying to sell advertising space.

But what has made me any money 1 has made me $2 and that was 1and1′s referral advertising but this was on one of my less busy websites, yet the popular sites haven’t pulled in ANYTHING this was a big problem when using advertising which you cannot get any money out untill you earn $100.

So my new adventure is selling my own personal advertising space, as you might have noticed I actually have some new adverts around the page for sale their cheap as you can find out on the advertising space page it is currently run using openads so if someone wants a advert on this site they can pay me say a months cost once I see the money (in paypal) I will put the advert up.

Unfortunately it isn’t all automated i need to set up the adverts myself which personally I dislike as it doesn’t insure absote accuracy on the ads compared to the client putting it in.

Which to me is bad I believe potential customers would find it bad as well, I’m only saying that because I went totally off topic.

So overall $2 made and all I’ve ended up with is a messy website and a big bill for the websites.

What I’m getting at is that if your website isn’t that popular don’t put adverts on your site use the clean and tidy look to rake in more people if you visit a site and theirs ads eveywhere you don’t want to stay do you but if its clean you consider reading it.

Only when you can put one small ad on your site and get a little money are you ready to put more on your website so be careful not to overflow your site with adverts.

BitLet – A bittorrent applet

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

Web based bittorrent client running in java bitletThe other day I came across BitLet, now I’m a big fan of bittorrent I believe it is one of the best ways to share your podcasts as once you’ve downloaded it you can then share it to the other people downloading it.

A lot of people think that P2P is a bad thing because it allows you to download music or movies but it really isn’t its a lot more something like Utorrent is a amazing client it has all these tools on it such as the encryption some ISP’s do not like clients like utorrent so it includes encryption so that the ISP’s don’t slow your downloads down.

But now if your at work or school and they don’t have a BitTorrent client visit BitLet and start the Java Applet and your ready to download.
