Autometa just installed.

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006

robot.jpgWell I just installed autometa after a Kian Ann was talking about adding meta tag’s

did not use Meta tags as i thought in this day and age they where pretty much obsolete, no one for sure knows if Google still uses them, and all the meta search spiders drink up all the bandwidth and their isn’t much you gain from it. So i though i should give it a go for a couple of months.

But i just came across autometa automatically sets up your keywords by scanning your text when you publish it, so now i will keep using meta tags as I don’t have to waste time typing them in!

Blogging Where Shall I Write A Draft?

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006

Normally when I go to write a post for my blog I will open up Open Office or MS Office, but this got me thinking I have a full text editor on my blog and I also have the Google toolbar so why should i need to even use and word processor.
So this post is just a trial to see how well Google and WordPress work together alternative of using OO, but already Google spell checker is messing up my work its adding all kind of crap to my posts, don’t know what was happening their but i think i have sorted out that issue with clicking loads of buttons randomly.

wordprocessorSo now I’m going to check this one last time with Google spell checker and copy it into MS Word.

Well one good thing is that it detected that i wasn’t using any capital ‘i’.

But from this expirience of using WordPress + Google toolbar Vs a word processor is that when in wordpress it will allow me to add pictures which I can’t really do in a word processor for obvious reasons, and i can’t copy over bullet points without having problems when viewing in Internet Explorer.

So from now on i will not be using a word processor it will be the google toolbar all the way.

googlesearch.jpgWell I’ve actually noticed that I’m doing a really crap job at SEO which is pretty much annoying me, this month I have a target of 200 unique hits and when I compare this to other new bloggers it’s a really crap job I’m doing at the moment so in January I’m going to start doing as much research into SEO as possible and I’m going to try and hit a target of 1000 Unique visitors by the end of march.

Please any tips on SEO would be brilliant, I’m looking forward to this challenge.

Bullet For My Valentine – The Poison

bulletthumb.jpgThis is an album full of powerful emotional lyrics, though NOT EMO. Which released during the explosion of young, almost old style metal bands was brilliant timing for Matt Tuck (Frontman for Bullet). This album features more tracks then their previous one and should be appreciated for the potent influence from metal bands Iron Maiden and Metallica.

The whole album is based around the same emotions which allows all the songs to interact with each other, their first single released from the album was ‘All these things I hate revolve around me’, this was a great place to start as it had the metal but wasn’t too harsh which allowed a wider selection of listener to appreciate it. i.e was more accessible to a wider audience.

Pictures on your blog good or bad?

Monday, December 11th, 2006

Well if you’ve been reading my blog you will notice that I don’t use pictures in my articles but I though I should go around different blogs looking at the advantages and disadvantages of pictures.

Book & Pen

Advantages:

1. It entices people into your writing by this I’m talking about when you read a blog if you notice their isn’t any pictures your eyes want to wander away.

2. A picture is worth a thousand words, you will be surprised how true this is lets take a film for example like Harry Potter then compare it to the book a film is about 1 hour and 30 I guess and if you read the book it can take around 3 hours to read it so we can see here a picture is worth a thousand words.

3. Brightens up your design, well I’m comparing two sites which one doesn’t use pictures in the post and one does, looking at one where their isn’t any pictures its pretty much dull all over it doesn’t draw your eyes to anything, now comparing this to the one with pictures it looks more colourful.

Disadvantages:

1. Where to get the pictures, there are many websites offering cheap stock photos, but do you really want to buy photos which could change your income substantially.

2. Decrease in unique visitors, well as you might of guessed your hits won’t increase as much as you want adding pictures will get you your visitors you’ve always wanted!

I really tried to think of a 3rd one for disadvantages but I couldn’t so this must mean that it wins, next time you write a article include a picture!

A new way to draw people to your site?

Sunday, December 10th, 2006

Browser URLWell today I was checking out my forums, and too my surprise some new members commented on a old thread, the thread was myself and some other members discussing their work on a couple of their sites which in my opinion looked nice but ultimately wasn’t SEO friendly.

So this thread popped up and the owners where their saying how I was wrong. This isn’t something you would expect (well at least I never would), I was very shocked to see them talking about it.

So could this be a good idea for bringing people to your site, it could seem to be a very good idea out of this one thread I got two new members to join and they where actually really happy about it, which I found the funniest part when they commented back they sounded a little ticked off so too see them chatting away with me, they where happy about my comments!

Please comment back on this if you have had any experiences like this I find this really funny!

No Internet Means No Work?

Saturday, December 9th, 2006

This happened to me twice in one day once at my College and once at home when I was at college everyone was sitting at their computers working when suddenly theirs a moaning in the room which slowly circulates around the room until everyone rolls away from the computer and starts talking at that point I though this is suddenly very loud I looked around the room no one was doing their work just chatting away as we couldn’t do anything as we was working on the internet.

When I was sitting at home surfing the net looking for presents so I could be ready for Christmas it goes down once again it had renewed my plans for uploading a couple of articles on typer tappers and doing a little work for college.

So anyone else find that if your connection goes down everything comes screeching to a halt?

The Gadget Show Campaign For Free wifi.

Thursday, December 7th, 2006

ss_223.jpgWell I keep meaning to blog about this but keep forgetting finally I remembered!

But if you watch “The Gadget Show” on five you will know about their free wifi campaign in the UK for free wifi, I think this is a brilliant idea they have done it in a couple of places in the US and it has helped poor communities to build up their community.

But in this campaign I can see a lot of problems for example carrying your laptops around with you in busy areas can lead to much more problems with anti social behaviour as you will see a increase in crime rates, which is already a massive problem.

It will confine the war drivers though as they will just stay in towns sniffing people’s traffic but could this also lead to a new generation of hackers?

I have signed up to this campaign and I hope all the readers out their reading my blog will also sign up for free WiFi.

I would love to hear your comments on this as I’m not too sure about the subject in hand as it could be a very dangerous idea to unleash.

Vista, well too me it sounds like a load of hot air.

Lets start off from looking at Windows 95/98.

Windows 95: It was a break through in computer operating systems, I still have 95 running on a machine somewhere you compare it to any before that and you will see that it was unbelievable at how good it was it practically lead the way to our more modern operating systems like XP and for this windows will never be forgotten.

Windows 98/SE: I was a user of this for many many years it was very recent that I actually switched to XP maybe a year ago I was still using 98SE fabulous operating system had the 95 feel too it but with a much wider range of usage.

Windows ME: This was pretty much a failure you couldn’t see anything new about it, 98 was still loads better than ME, so nothing else I can put here really.

Windows XP: Now were getting to the big players, XP was simply amazing with its looks and many more features one of the biggest features I can think of now are “plug and play” and this was a large reason why a lot of people switched from 98.

This based on NT also another operating system called Windows NT didn’t really see much of it but its no widely known for being put into many operating systems like Win2k and WinXP so as for XP I can’t really say it will be remembered for life but it was brilliant.

Windows Vista: I shouldn’t really be saying much on this operating system because it isn’t really had a decent release yet we still have loads of updates etc…

So lets start by saying resource hog, most of your resources are put into making the Aero Glass design look nice, I can get a glass look in Linux and it doesn’t take a damn super computer to power it I can put it on a 333mhz machine with 64mb ram!

Security features are just updated old versions with their names changed like windows defender all that has happened is that its been updated nothing new.

I can see Microsoft stopping support of XP etc to make people switch to Vista but if that ever happens I’m switching to Linux/Mac but only if they don’t support if for the rest of the 10 years since it was released.

Spam how do we get it?

Monday, December 4th, 2006

Well the most common way as you might already know is posting your email address online, which if you’re a webmaster is very annoying because you have to make a image with your email address on so that the ‘spiders’ can’t read it.

The other way is submitting your email address to people, a while ago I submitted one of my old email addresses to a free host website and I started to get a lot of spam and increasing amount of spam over the couple of months from what I recall I had about 20 emails a day.

But thinking back to it now it was a very stupid thing to do submitting my email address to a free host website but now you see companies actually giving out emails (bulk) for a charge and these are their customers or it could even be someone from the inside of the company leaking the information out.

But nowadays you need to submit your email address to practically everything you do for example posting a comment on a blog you need to use your email to verify your not a spammer or you want to download something you need to verify your email address again.

So overall there is no way to get around all this the only way is spam filters which hardly ever work.
