What Stage Does Your Weblog Become Messy?

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006

A while ago i wrote about A messy blog is a unpopular blog, but at what stage does it get cluttered?

I’ve been adding loads of features to my blog as you can see but i see it starting to get cluttered i feel as if either my ads or my features need to be minimized a lot, but these features are brilliant it allows you the readers to add things to other websites or give you extra information which can be very handy, but on the other side the advertising is something i need so i can keep the website running.

I wont be supprised if every weblogger gets to this stage thinking how do i clean it up?

This is the very hard part of web designing judging at what point people don’t want to look at your site because its a mess, so the main key is putting the handy things small enough so that they can see it but so its not making a mess of the site.

But thinking about the adverts for a minute you can’t and wouldn’t want to hide these really because you want people to see them so here its just messing around with the colours trying to get them to fit in good enough.

Kubuntu V6.06.1 Review.

Tuesday, November 21st, 2006

Here is my review on Kubuntu.

Lets start with a little bit about Kubuntu, it uses a KDE Desktop Environment which compared to Ubuntu that uses Gnome (very different).

That is the main difference between Kubuntu and Ubuntu you will also find that the programs in Kubuntu are also different but you do have a package manager allowing automatic install for the programs.

The installation: Brill if you compare this to something like Microsoft Windows installation there is a massive difference, with (K)ubuntu it is a Live CD live meaning that you can run it straight from your CD-ROM instead of running it from your hard drive so its kind of like a way of letting people test it before they install it, but with this you can surf the net while your installing (K)ubuntu to your hard drive.

Now comparing this to Windows XP it looks very ugly when installing it, and you can’t do anything at the same time, so you have to sit their for 2 hours or so waiting for it to install.

So the installation i would give 4/5.

Logging in: This is newly added to my list, because you don’t really notice your login screen too much so i would like you to start paying attention to all the different login screens you can get, if you have a Gnome Linux based distro and a KDE one take a look at the difference, so here I’m going to compare Ubuntu to Kubuntu on the login screen, With Ubuntu it will only show one thing at a time for example you will see Username but not Password this annoys me.

Now with Kubuntu you have a nice login screen with Username, Password and a selection of other buttons and it looks fantastic!

Here i will give Kubuntu a 3/5.

Applications:Well as this is from a newbies point of view you have to have this review here, the applications you get with the distro are very important as you don’t really want to go looking around for applications and messing about trying to install them especially if their tar files.

First thing i noticed was no Firefox, I was very supprised but with KDE Desktop standard web browser is Konquer isn’t too bad for viewing files and folders but for web browsing it just can’t cut it, but with Linux i find all the distro’s all the applications are pritty much the same even if they have a different name.

So i would have to give this a 4/5.

Drives: Every Linux distro I’ve had this has been a large problem but this was much easier that Ubuntu at installing my ATI 9550 radeon Graphics card, i could only get it a higher resolution in wide-screen but this is the furthest I’ve gotten at installing Drivers on Linux, but I’m still disappointed so this will have to be 2/5.

Online Support: Its nothing compared to the Ubuntu Forum, there are so many members offering help and that are currently online, on the Kubuntu Forum you feel like your the only one their it feels like a ghost town so getting support was slow not sure if i even have a reply still!

So don’t expect much from the Kubuntu Forum i would say your better off asking on the Ubuntu Forum 1/5.

Tuesday, November 21st, 2006

I would like to hear any feed back on my new layout, it was rushed a little too fast so i will be tweaking it over the next few months.

Getting a lot of visitors to your weblog.

Thursday, November 16th, 2006

Well I have come across a lot of people recently asking how to get a website popular, the first thing they think of is Google people think you just make a website and you will get loads of visitors from Google, but this isn’t a very good plan search engine optimization is a long and painful process.

You will find thousands of people making money for just being good at SEO, but it comes with years of practice and is always changing so its very hard to keep up, so you need to be fully dedicated to the job.

So I’m going to sum up everything i have learned over the past years so you can catch up on anything you don’t know about SEO.

  1. Content: You’re content must be up to scratch you must have loads of it and it must be updater regularly.

  2. Anchored Links: A very good way to get a high page rank in Google is by having a website link to you having text in the link containing keywords and a description etc.

  3. Friendly URL: Put as many keywords in the URL as possible will also help your page rank.

  4. Sitemap: This is very simple make a XML sitemap and submit it to http://www.Google.com/webmasters, this will allow your website to be crawled more often

  5. Advertise: Best way to get any visitors if you belong to forums, blogs or submitting to directory’s put your link somewhere.

This is a update from the previous ”Getting Visitors to Your Website.

Removing password from windows.

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006

Well very recently I’ve lost my password a couple of times so i needed some way of getting on my windows partition, so i can use my programs!

So i went hunting the forums until i came across a brilliant boot CD, no it isn’t Ultimate Boot CD its Hiren’s boot CD when you download it, its very simple so follow what you need it for!

But this brought me up to thinking about how easily people can physically bypass your windows passwords, i thought putting a password on my BIOS set up and make it boot the hard drive first but all BIOS’ are made with a master password built in unless you get a BIOS that has never been heard of before your pretty much stuck from physical attacks.

Please if you know a way to stop physical attacks please tell me in the comments section i will be very interested in it!

Gmail Is Brilliant, Why I love it!

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006

If you love using Google’s features get a Gmail account and you can access them all, it also allows you to look at you’re search history or even create spreadsheets using the email address.

So why not hotmail some of you may be thinking, the main thing that puts me off is the flash advertising things moving across the page is just horrible you also have a horrible design on their site, even the windows live mail doesn’t look very nice.

Compare this with Gmail I can’t see any animated adverts the design is so simple it looks good, it would be nice to have a feature allowing us to change themes, but oh well its better than hotmail at lest.

WordPress Blogging, brilliant features.

Monday, November 13th, 2006

I now think I made the right choice about choosing WordPress over writing my own script, the amount of features that you get with WordPress it phenomenal the best thing I think is uploading pictures to WordPress where you can then drag and drop the picture into the text (thank god for AJAX)

And also the plugins, I have installed about 10 plugins now not all of them are enabled but there is a huge range of them allowing you to do so much more.

So anyone considering Blogging get WordPress!

I would love to hear your thoughts on WordPress or any other Blogging scripts out their.
